Sr. Fellow Williamson Evers is interviewed on WQAM’s The Voice of Reason with Andy Hooser. It’s called many different names such as “student led instruction” or “collaborative learning” but what ever name you call it, “woke” math is being introduced into California’s math framework and it’s also finding its way into other states. Evers says it’s a tragedy since children need to learn math in math class, not politics. Learning math is critical for their future employment, especially children whose first language isn’t English. Why is ancient Mayan math introduced? These progressive education styles are being introduced into math classes in K-12 in California and is called “self discovery” and “student led” instruction among other terms. Teachers are not leading the classroom and math is to be “discovered” by students on their own terms. It's no surprise, says Evers, that American children are falling behind other nations in math skills.
