Why did Western civilization develop so differently from others, and where is it headed today? French philosopher Philippe Nemo argues that the West is a synthesis of equal measures of classical Greece and Rome, Jerusalem, the Papal Revolution, and modern liberal democracy and that it is threatened by excessive expansion of the European Union and by multiculturalists who mistakenly believe that totalitarianism is endemic to the West.
