In The Open Society and Its Enemies, the philosopher of science Karl Popper (1902–1994) outlined a method of social reform he called “piecemeal social engineering,” a policy approach antithetical to thinkers who are wary of interventionism. Ironically, Popper’s own work on the evolution of knowledge offers a strong foundation on which to criticize Popper’s interventionism and to support market freedom.
