Can Americas Electoral System Be Fixed?
Tuesday, February 6, 2001
The Fiasco in Florida has intensified calls to reform Americas political system. Is Americas electoral system broken? Has it been flawed all along? Should the Electoral College be abolished? Is proportional representation a solution to the paradox of voters having to choose between the lesser of two evils? Can direct democracy break the influence of special-interest groups? And perhaps most importantly, will any of these changes actually improve our lives and protect our freedoms, especially for those most disadvantaged? Robert Cooter, Randy Simmons, and Alexander Tabarrok will discuss reforming American democracy in the 21st century.
