Ralph Raico

Ralph Raico (1936–2016) was Professor Emeritus of History at Buffalo State College, Research Fellow at the Independent Institute, and Associate Editor of The Independent Review. Professor Raico received his Ph.D. under Nobel Prize Laureate economist F. A. Hayek in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, where he was also co-editor of The New Individualist Review.

His articles appeared in numerous scholarly volumes and journals, and his books include Classical Liberalism and the Austrian School, Great Wars and Great Leaders, and The Party of Freedom: Studies in the History of German Liberalism. He translated from German into English the book, Liberalism: In the Classical Tradition, by Ludwig von Mises, as well as numerous essays by F. A. Hayek that are now contained in The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek (University of Chicago Press). He also served as Senior Editor for Inquiry Magazine, and in 2000 he received the Gary G. Schlarbaum Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Cause of Liberty.
