New Book on Empire Building to Be Showcased at Reception on October 20
Capitol Hill Reception to Include C. Boyden Gray, Lawrence Korb

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Assistant Secretary of Defense Lawrence Korb and former counsel to President George H.W. Bush, C. Boyden Gray will join author Ivan Eland in a cocktail reception to release his new book, The Empire Has No Clothes: U.S. Foreign Policy Exposed, on Wednesday, October 20, in B-369 of the Rayburn House Office Building (First Street and Independence Avenue S.W., Washington, D.C.) from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. The reception is sponsored by Congressmen Ron Paul (R-TX) and Jim McDermott (D-WA).

The Empire Has No Clothes (The Independent Institute, 294 pages) advocates a return to the Founding Fathers’ policy of military restraint overseas and argues that the concept of empire is contrary to the principles of both liberals and conservatives. Author Ivan Eland, a leading expert on U.S. defense policy, warns that blowback from our overextended empire is threatening the American homeland and curtailing the very liberties and well- being that the U.S. interventions were supposed to protect.

Ambassador Edward L. Peck, former Chief of the U.S. Mission in Iraq said The Empire Has No Clothes is: “a provocative study of where we are, how we got there, and the dangers inherent in the aggressive, imperialist policies we are implementing. It is impressively lucid, filled with rational analysis and insightful commentary, certain to satisfy concerned readers across the political spectrum.”

Author Ivan Eland is Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Peace and Liberty at the Independent Institute in Oakland, California. He has an M.B.A. in applied economics and a Ph.D. in national security policy from George Washington University. A former principal defense analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, he is also the author of Putting “Defense” Back into U.S. Defense Policy: Rethinking U.S. Security in the Post-Cold War World.
