Research Fellow Robert Whaples, editor of Pope Francis and the Caring Society is interviewed on The Josh Tolley show. What is the best way to help our brothers and sisters who are in need? Trading voluntarily shows how free markets have the power to lift others out of poverty, which is one of the major themes of the book. More than governments, markets can help the less fortunate through the action of individuals. Over the last few decades, more than a billion people worldwide have been moved above the absolute poverty line, mostly through capitalism, property rights and by worldwide trading, says Whaples. The Pope doesn't see this because of his "blind spots" in regards to capitalism.
