Joseph Cirincione is the President of Ploughshares Fund and former Senior Fellow and Director for Nuclear Policy at the Center for American Progress.

Mr. Cirincione has served as Director for Nonproliferation at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and while on the professional staff of the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Government Operations, he served as staff director of the Military Reform Caucus. He has also held positions at the Henry L. Stimson Center, U.S. Information Agency, and Center for Strategic and International Studies. He holds a Masters of Science with highest honors from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service.

He is the author of more than two hundred articles on defense issues, and his books include Bomb Scare: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons, Contain and Engage: A New Strategy for Resolving the Iran Nuclear Crisis, Deadly Arsenals: Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Threats, and Universal Compliance: A Strategy for Nuclear Security.
