Conveniently located near the Oakland Airport, the Independent Institute is an award-winning, academic, non-partisan, public policy research and educational organization. We publish books and a quarterly journal, produce forums about issues in the news, and increasingly offer our materials in digital and visual media.
The Managing Editor, operating under the direction of the Senior Director of Publications, is responsible for publications production at Independent, including overseeing the work of designers, copyeditors, and proofreaders, and indexers involved in the publishing of books, eBooks, audio books, journals, newsletters, white papers, and other items distributed by the Institute.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing and coordinating Independents conferences and author speaking events, partnership promotions, internships, and the broad dissemination of Independents research and publications. The Coordinator employs best-in-class project management, to maximize participation and response to Independents educational programstracking and analyzing the effectiveness of various approaches.
The Senior Director of Advancement is responsible for securing major gifts from exceptional individuals, families, foundations, and companies who find our programs compelling.
The Marketing and Sales Director is responsible for developing and implementing all marketing and social media plans and campaigns, with two goals in mind: widening and deepening the audience for Independents ideas and products (marketing) and then actually increasing the number of products sold or ideas disseminated to those audiences (sales).
Student Internships in Acquisitions, Donor Relations, Marketing, Communications, Publications, and Research are available year-round. Applications are now being accepted for upcoming quarters.
