Position Summary

We are looking for someone who knows how to grow brands and wants to build an active and engaged digital community. You know how to create both the strategy and the content for organic + paid social/digital media to increase engagement and brand visibility amongst our target audiences.

You’ll play a critical role within the marketing team, developing great ideas, producing engaging, relevant content, and keeping a good balance between speed and quality. You’ll ensure that unique, engaging and search-friendly content is created for the brand and track engagement.

You’re an innovative thinker that identifies new opportunities to capture new audiences and understand what content works on various platforms. You can also think holistically about how everything integrates together to tell a greater and more consistent storyline. You can see the trends and know how to capture them to work for a brand. You have a keen understanding of what content people are gravitating towards and can dive into analytics, using past wins to drive innovative campaigns.

Highlight of Responsibilities

  • Refine and further build our social media strategy for organic and paid social
  • Introduce new ideas to the team to directly impact the growth of our overall social media and digital presence that align with marketing campaigns
  • Act as the voice of Independent, understanding our mission and building impactful campaigns to reach key audiences
  • Collaborate across the marketing department to plan and execute larger marketing initiatives, campaigns, and programs across channels
  • Utilize insights/data and creativity to create monthly content calendars for all platforms
  • Perform analysis and deliver insights to drive actionable decision making that help us strengthen content and delivery
  • Report on channel and campaign performance, making tactical and strategic adjustments for content optimization
  • Cultivate a digital community by interacting with other brands and influencers to join relevant conversations
  • Manage capturing and reposting influencer content and user generated content

Required Skills/Experience

  • 3-5+ years of experience in social media and content production
  • Proven experience with paid forms of advertising campaigns (i.e. Google Ad Grants, Paid Social Ads, etc.)
  • Familiarity with SEO/SEM principles and tools
  • Deep knowledge of the social media universe, inclusive of evolving trends, audiences, measurement, content execution and KPIs
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with analytics tools to measure and report on campaign performance
  • Proficient in Canva and other visual applications to create engaging content
  • Experience with Buffer, Sprout, or similar social media tracking, listening, and monitoring tools, Google and YouTube Analytics
  • Exceptional writing skills with a keen attention to detail, adhering to brand guidelines and tone of voice
  • Critical thinking skills to develop creative solutions
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Research best practices and be a subject matter expert on emerging trends in digital media
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing digital landscape

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong alignment with our mission and the ideas animating the Independent Institute
  • Appropriate educational credentials (e.g., B.A. and/or M.A. in digital marketing, policy, economics, or the humanities)
  • Stellar video filming and editing skills


  • $55,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and level of hire
