Assessing the FDA via the Anomaly of Off-Label Drug Prescribing

Abstract

Most American hospital patients are given drugs not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the prescribed use. If off-label prescribing is so widespread and successful, is the FDA’s pre-approval process really necessary?
