Scott W. Atlas
Scott W. Atlas, M.D., is a Senior Advisor at the Independent Institute, host of its podcast “Independent Truths with Dr. Scott Atlas”, and author of A Plague Upon Our House: My Fight at the Trump White House to Stop COVID from Destroying America.
James Tooley
James Tooley is Vice Chancellor (President) of the University of Buckingham in England, where he also serves as Professor of Educational Entrepreneurship and Policy, and is a Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute. He is the author of Really Good Schools and The Beautiful Tree.
Mary L. G. Theroux
Mary L. G. Theroux is Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chief Executive Officer, of the Independent Institute. She is former Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Alameda County Salvation Army and former Chairman and current member of the San Francisco Salvation Army Advisory Board.

This sober, smart, clear-headed discussion couldn’t come at a more critical time in American life.

Our speakers shed much-needed light on the harms inflicted on our children through the lockdowns and mandates. Drs. Atlas and Tooley consider how the virus exposed some deep-rooted problems in America's state-run education system. And, most important, they discuss effective opportunities for educational innovation.

Global Lessons for High-Caliber, Low-Cost Education
By James Tooley

Almost overnight a virus has brought into question America’s nearly 200-year-old government-run K-12 school-system—and prompted an urgent search for alternatives. But where should we turn to find them?

A distinguished scholar of education and the world’s foremost expert on private, low-cost innovative education, Tooley takes readers to some of the world’s most impoverished communities located in some of the world’s most dangerous places—including India and such war-torn countries as Sierra Leone, Liberia, and South Sudan. There, in places where education “experts” fear to tread, Tooley finds thriving private schools that government, multinational NGOs, and even international charity officials deny exist.

My Fight at the Trump White House to Stop COVID from Destroying America
By Scott Atlas

When Dr. Scott W. Atlas was tapped by Donald Trump to join his COVID Task Force, he was immediately thrust into a maelstrom of scientific disputes, policy debates, raging egos, politically motivated lies, and cynical media manipulation. Numerous myths and distortions surround the Trump Administration’s handling of the crisis, and many pressing questions remain unanswered. Did the Trump team really bungle the response to the pandemic? Were the right decisions made about travel restrictions, lockdowns, and mask mandates? Are Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx competent medical experts or timeserving bureaucrats? Did half a million people really die unnecessarily because of Trump’s incompetence?
