OAKLAND, CAThe Independent Institute today announced that Dr. Susan E. Mangels has joined the organization as Vice President and Chief Development Officer. Dr. Mangels will assume the responsibility for managing all fundraising operations, with a particular focus on major individual and foundation donors.
Prior to joining Independent, Dr. Mangels was the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Lindenwood University and served as the Director of Corporate, Foundation Relations, and Planned Giving where she spearheaded the individual, planned, corporate, and foundation donor programs. She has also served as President of Lexington College, Dean of Oakcrest School (Washington, D.C.) and Assistant Head of Montrose School (Medfield, Mass.).
Dr. Mangels commented, I am honored and excited to lead the fundraising initiatives at the Independent Institute to further the principles of liberty and free societies through education and research that Independent began nearly 30 years ago.
Dr. Mangels serves on the boards of FOCUS St. Louis, Catholic Charities of St. Louis, and the Womens Leadership Cabinet of the United Way of St. Louis. She has also served on the American Council on Educations Commission on Women in Higher Education and on the national Board of Directors of the Womens Foodservice Forum. She is a past Trustee of Morgan Park Academy and Kingswood Academy as well as past Board Chair of the Chicago Culinary Guild. She is also a member of the St. Louis Forum, and she speaks frequently on the topics of executive leadership and work-life balance.
Dr. Mangels holds a B.A. from Furman University, Ed.M. from Harvard University, and Ph.D. in education policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
