Edward A. Olsen

Edward A. Olsen is a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute and Professor Emeritus of National Security Affairs and former Director of Asian Studies in the Center for Contemporary Conflict at the Naval Postgraduate School. His special research interests include Japanese and Korean politics and foreign policy; Korean unification; U.S.-Northeast Asian security relations; and U.S. foreign and defense policy.

Professor Olsen has taught at George Williams College and served as Political Intelligence Analyst (Japan/Korea) with the Office of East Asian and Pacific Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. Of his sixteen books and monographs, the most recent are U.S. National Defense for the Twenty-First Century: The Grand Exit Strategy, Toward Normalizing U.S.-Korean Relations: In Due Course?, and Hanmi Kwangae Ui Sae Jipyong/New Horizons of U.S./Korea Relations.

Professor Olsen is the author of 122 articles in such journals as the Far Eastern Economic Review, Korea and World Affairs, Korean Journal of International Studies, and Journal of East Asian Affairs. He is also the author of sixty-four chapters in numerous volumes and ninety op-eds in newspapers in the U.S. and Asia.
