Academic freedom requires that college students have opportunities to hear and evaluate provocative ideas, not safe spaces in the form of school-wide bans on controversial speakers. Two new books, one by American Civil Liberties Union president Nadine Strossen and the other by Princeton University politics professor Keith Whittington, examine different aspects of free speech and viewpoint diversity on campus and social media.
