Judy L. Shelton

Judy L. Shelton is a Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute and the author of Good as Gold: How to Unleash the Power of Sound Money. Former Chairman of the National Endowment for Democracy and former U.S. Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, she has testified before the U.S. Senate Banking, Senate Foreign Relations, House Banking, House Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committee.

Sean Fieler

Sean Fieler is the President and Chief Investment Officer of Equinox Partners Investment Management, a Connecticut-based investment firm founded in 1987. Mr. Fieler holds a degree in political economy from Williams College. He has written for The Wall Street Journal, the Federalist, and The Hill on the topics of monetary reform, fiscal policy, geopolitics, and responsible investing. In the mining sector, Mr. Fieler sits on the board of RTG Mining and has been a contributor to leading mining media outlets such as Kitco, 121 Mining, and the Denver Gold Forum. He also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. Mr. Fieler lives in Stamford, Connecticut, with his wife and six children.

U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts

U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, which will be holding confirmation hearings for Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump's pick to head the Federal Reserve. Ricketts was sworn in on January 23, 2023, following two terms as Nebraska’s 40th Governor. An Omaha native with an MBA from the University of Chicago, Ricketts previously served as COO of Ameritrade and founded Drakon, LLC to support entrepreneurs. As Governor, he delivered billions in tax relief, eliminated taxes on Social Security and veterans' retirement, and held budget growth to 2.8%. Under his leadership, Nebraska led the nation in economic development projects per capita. Ricketts remains active in numerous community organizations. He lives in Omaha with his wife, Susanne, and their three children.

The Independent Institute will host a Monetary Forum in Washington, D.C. to examine key questions surrounding Federal Reserve leadership and monetary policy oversight at a pivotal moment for the country. U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts of Nebraska will deliver remarks on “The Future of the Fed and the Warsh Confirmation Process.” The private discussion will feature a conversation between Judy Shelton, former nominee to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and author of Good as Gold: How to Unleash the Power of Sound Money, and Sean Fieler, Chair of the American Principles Project, followed by audience Q&A with all speakers. The program will explore the critical policy and institutional questions that Senate confirmation committees may confront when evaluating future Federal Reserve leadership.

The conversation will examine topics including central bank balance sheet policy, interest on reserves, inflation management, and the broader role of monetary policy in maintaining economic stability and growth. The program is designed to foster thoughtful dialogue among policymakers and policy professionals on the future direction of U.S. monetary governance.

The evening will begin with a reception featuring drinks and hors d’oeuvres, followed by the seated policy conversation and audience Q&A. The event will conclude with an opportunity for continued discussion and networking among attendees, and a book signing by Judy Shelton of her recent work.
