The Gold Standard: Prospect & Retrospect 50 Years After the Bretton Woods System | Judy L. Shelton
Posted: Wed. October 6, 2021, 1:53pm PT

This video features the compelling keynote presentation by Dr. Judy L. Shelton, Senior Fellow at the @Independent Institute, at a special event, "The Gold Standard: A Private Symposium," hosted by the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Her presentation was featured alongside AIER's book release of "The Gold Standard: Prospect and Retrospect," edited by Peter C. Earle and William J. Luther.

Fifty years earlier, President Richard Nixon terminated the Bretton Woods gold-exchange standard. AIER's Sound Money Project hosted this event as part of its effort to to bring that fateful decision back into the public consciousness and examine where we can go from here.

Dr. Shelton is a well-known advocate for a Universal Gold Reserve Bank. She has widely influenced monetary policy through her former positions as the Chairman of the National Endowment for Democracy, U.S. Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and nomination to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors by former President Donald Trump. She holds a Ph.D. in business administration, with an emphasis on finance and international economics, from the University of Utah, and she has been consulted on international economic/financial issues by national security officials at the White House, U.S. Congress, and the Pentagon. Her books include "Money Meltdown: Restoring Order to the Global Currency System" and "The Coming Soviet Crash: Gorbachev’s Desperate Pursuit of Credit in Western Financial Markets."
