News Media Incentives, Coverage of Government, and the Growth of Government

Abstract

Although conservative pundits often claim that liberal bias causes the news media to promote big government, non-ideological factors also warrant consideration. Over-reliance on government officials as news sources provides probably the strongest mechanism of indirect bias.
