David D. Friedman is Professor of Law at Santa Clara University. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago, and he has been John M. Olin Faculty Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School, Visiting Professor at Cornell Law School, Associate Professor in the A. B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, Assistant Professor of Economics at UCLA, Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of California at Irvine, Assistant Professor of Economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Post Doctoral Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Public and Urban Policy, and Research Associate in Physics at Columbia University.

A contributor to numerous scholarly journals and volumes, Professor Friedman is the author of the books, Future Imperfect: Technology and Freedom in an Uncertain World, Law's Order: An Economic Account, Hidden Order: The Economics of Everyday Life, Price Theory: An Intermediate Text, and The Machinery of Freedom: Guide to a Radical Capitalism. He is also the author of the novels, Harald and Salamander.
