Alvaro Vargas Llosa Host of “Consecuencias: Latin America Uncovered”
National Geographic Channels International’s First-Ever Series Produced Entirely in Spanish

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 22, 2008—In late September, National Geographic Channels International announced the new four-part series, “Consecuencias: Latin America Uncovered,” hosted by Independent Institute Senior Fellow Alvaro Vargas Llosa.

Produced by Fox Telecolombia, each episode identifies revolutionary turning points in Latin America’s political and social landscape that have shaped the continent today. The series premiered in Latin America earlier this month and is set for a global release.

The documentary features interviews with prominent leaders including Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, Bolivian President Evo Morales, Peruvian President Alan Garcia, and former Mexican President Vicente Fox. The four episodes, Dictadura, Imperialismo, Indigenismo, and Populismo, use these themes to clearly illuminate both the complexities and the challenges of the continent’s cultural, social, and political experience over the last century.

“Consecuencias is a landmark production for National Geographic Channel. We are proud to partner with Alvaro and Fox Telecolombia to offer viewers an authentic and thought-provoking documentary produced entirely in Spanish,” said Sydney Suissa, Executive Vice President of Content for NGCI. “The series delves into the deeply-threaded beliefs, radical political movements, and imperialistic histories that have shaped contemporary Latin America and will continue to shape the continent throughout the twenty-first century.”
