Out of the Storm
A Conference on Property Insurance Reform
Wednesday, September 30, 2009

NEW ORLEANS, LA
September 30th – October 2nd
A Conference on Property Insurance Reform

The Independent Institute and the Competitive Enterprise Institute, in cooperation with the Louisiana and South Carolina Departments of Insurance, and a variety of other organizations will host the second annual Out of the Storm conference. A distinguished line-up of speakers and guests will gather to discuss issues related to insurance reform for natural-disaster-plagued geographic areas. “We are trying to ask the tough questions and provide—at minimum—partial answers. Louisiana and South Carolina have both gone down the road of pro-market reform for hurricane-prone areas,” says Eli Lehrer, Director of CEI’s Center for Risk, Regulation and Markets. “This is sure to be an important conference.”

Two days of panels, seminars, and workshops will focus on the successes and challenges that hurricane-prone states face in their efforts to implement insurance reform. “Last year’s conference in South Carolina was a great success and I’m sure this year’s will be as well,” said Scott Richardson, Director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance, adding that “The event is a no-holds-barred, completely open forum where we encourage new and even controversial ideas to be discussed.” Invited speakers include Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, and Craig Fugate, Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The conference promises to be an important and lively forum for attendees and all those involved in these public policy issues.
