John R. Christy
John R. Christy is Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science and Director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. A Fellow of the American Meteorological Society, he also serves as Alabama State Climatologist. For his development of a global temperature data set from satellites, he was awarded (with Roy Spencer) NASA’s Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement.

Dr. Christy is a Lead Author for the United Nations’ reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has or is serving on five National Research Council panels or committees, has performed research for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation and the State of Alabama, and has provided testimony to several congressional committees.

His articles have appeared in Science, Nature, Journal of Climate, and The Journal of Geophysical Research. Dr. Christy received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois.
