Paul A. Cantor

Paul A. Cantor is the Clifton Waller Barrett Professor of English and Director of the Comparative Literature Program at the University of Virginia. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and he has been NEH Visiting Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Davidson College and Visiting Professor of Government at Harvard University (2007, 2012 and 2015).

He is a contributor to numerous scholarly volumes and journals, and his many books include Shakespeare's Rome: Republic and Empire, Creature and Creator: Myth-making and English Romanticism, Shakespeare: Hamlet, Macbeth und die Evangelisierung von Schottland, Gilligan Unbound: Pop Culture in the Age of Globalization, Literature and the Economics of Liberty: Spontaneous Order in Culture, The Invisible Hand in Popular Culture: Liberty vs. Authority in American Film and TV, Shakespeare’s Roman Trilogy: The Twilight of the Ancient World and Pop Culture and the Dark Side of the American Dream: Con Men, Gangsters, Drug Lords, and Zombies.
