Research Fellow

Richard H. Timberlake, Jr.

Richard H. Timberlake, Jr. is Research Fellow at The Independent Institute and Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Georgia. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago, and he has taught at Florida State University, Muhlenberg College, Norwich University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Texas A & M University.

A past Vice President of the Southern Economic Association, he is the editor (with Kevin Dowd) of the book, Money and the Nation State: The Financial Revolution, Government, and the World Monetary System and author of the books, Money, Banking and Central Banking, Money and Banking, and Origins of Central Banking in the United States.

His many articles and reviews have been published in the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Finance, Journal of Political Economy, Southern Economic Journal, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic History, Quarterly Review of Economics and Business, International Review of Banking History, Journal of Monetary Economics, Kredit und Kapital, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and Review of Austrian Economics. Professor Timberlake’s articles have further appeared in the Encyclopedia Americana and Dictionary of American History, as well as in Banker’s Magazine, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Monthly Review, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, Wall Street Journal, and Banking.
