Art Carden is a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute in Oakland, California, Assistant Professor of Economics at Samford University, Senior Fellow with the Beacon Center of Tennessee, Senior Research Fellow with the Institute for Faith, Work, and Economics, a columnist for Forbes.com, and an occasional contributor to the Washington Examiner. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Washington University in Saint Louis, and he has been Assistant Professor of Economics at Rhodes College.

Professor Carden's articles have appeared in such scholarly journals as Public Choice, Contemporary Economic Policy, Journal of Urban Economics, Law & Development Review, Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, Journal of Private Enterprise, New Perspectives on Political Economy, Journal of Business Valuation and Economic Loss Analysis, Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, International Journal of Social Economics, Economic Affairs, American Review of Political Economy, Business and Society Review, and Business and Politics.

He is a contributor to the Oxford Handbook of Southern Politics, Handbook of Major Events in Economic History, International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture, and Business and Religion: A Clash of Civilizations?

Professor Carden's popular articles have appeared in Newsday, Foreign Policy, The Freeman, Washington Times, Forbes, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Los Angeles Business Journal, The Tennessean, Washington Examiner, and elsewhere.
